The Parish & Finance Councils have begun a new fiscal year of meetings. The Parish Council, in close collaboration with the pastor, helps guide a vision for the community. They assist in exploring various ways to be the dynamic parish that we ought to be. The Finance Council, in close collaboration with the pastor, looks at the nuts and bolts of parish operations. They ask the tough questions of how much money we have and if it is feasible to do certain projects. Potential members of those councils are given to the pastor for consideration. He makes the call.
The advice both bodies provide is of utmost importance in helping the pastor and our pastoral team make the best decisions possible for the life of our church. Fortunately, the people we have on these councils come from various experiences and expertise, so it is a joy to work with them. They are the voices for our parish, and it is good if they hear from each one of you. If you have an area of concern or would like to bring up a specific issue, please seek out the members of these councils so they can see the issue addressed at the meetings.
Both councils meet every other month. You can usually find the meeting times in the InforMore, bulletin, and website. The Parish Council usually meets at 6:00 p.m. on the second Monday of the month in September, November, January, March, and May. The Finance Council usually meets at 11:30 a.m. on the second Monday of the month in August, October, December, February, April, and June.
Some of the upcoming agenda items include a Parish Dialogue event, Called & Gfited, ongoing maintenance projects, emergency plan, and much more. If you are interested in this, please talk to a member of the council or pastoral team to let them know your thoughts. For example, a little over a year ago, a couple parishioners talked to the Parish Council about the possibility of a safety team. It was discussed, processed, and approved to move forward; now we have willing volunteers helping during Sunday morning Masses. This is an example of how important it is that all of us have something to offer to build up the Body of Christ. We appreciate the time and talent of all who serve to make our parish a beacon of light to the Good News of Jesus Christ.
