A hip-hop group called The Black Eye Peas recorded a song called “Where is the Love?” back in 2004. It was nominated at the Grammy Awards for Record of the Year. The lyrics keep going through my head this week. The song begins:
What’s wrong with the world, mama?
People livin’ like they ain’t got no mama!
I think the whole world’s addicted to the drama,
Only attracted to things that’ll bring you trauma.
The chorus is essentially a prayer to God:
People killin’, people dyin’
Children hurt and you hear them cryin’.
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek?
Father, Father, Father help us.
Send some guidance from above.
‘Cause people got me, got me questionin’
Where is the love?
