Beginning May 29, we will have a transitional deacon assigned to St. Thomas More for three months. Unlike permanent deacons, like the three we have assigned to our parish, transitional deacons spend about a year in this ministry before they are ordained to the priesthood. Of course, they continue to be deacons, even after ordination to the priesthood, so service remains forever a major part of their ministry.
Deacon Andy is from Hays. He graduated from Thomas More Prep and Fort Hays State University with a degree in Health and Human Performance. He is the oldest of three children. He has one brother and one sister. His father is athletic director for FHSU. He did his pre-theology (philosophy) study at Conception Seminary in Conception, Missouri, and his theology study at St. Meinrad School of Theology in Meinrad, Indiana. To say that he has Benedictine influence is an understatement.
He will be introduced at all the Masses on the weekend of June 3-4. The STM Pastoral Team is planning various ministerial experiences for Dcn Andy this summer. I know that you will all give him a warm welcome and, together, we hope this will be a rewarding and learning experience for him.
