This year Council 8488 once again took advantage of a well-known sporting event with a similar name to promote our own "Souper Bowl". Thanks to the support of many Knights and other parishioners, it was a  bigger success than ever!

We collected well over 400 lbs of food at weekend masses through this effort.  As you may have heard on the radio, Bill Kennedy enlisted the help of a few other groups to collect food over Super Bowl weekend at the local grocery stores.  Those collections gathered about 2,000 lbs. All together, the idea we started collected about 2,500 lbs of food for those in need in Manhattan!  Thanks again to Bill Kennedy for organizing this effort with our community partners, Robert Holcombe for designing our St. Thomas More soup can wrap, and Dave Ekart and Joe Mainey for helping to deliver the food from the church to the Flint Hills Breadbasket on Friday.

In July, the council presented a check to Big Lakes Development for $1,177.98. The money was raised as part The Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities, also known as the Tootsie Roll Drive. The Knights have participated in the campaign for several years and have contributed over $13,000 to Big Lakes Development just in the last 11 years.

The 2013 campaign will occur from October 11 – 13, 2013. Knights interested in participating in this year’s drive should contact Larry Moeder, the council’s Community Director.
